| Q.1: What
is a Domain Name Server
(DNS) and how does it work? |
| The Domain
Name System (DNS) is a distributed
Internet directory service.
DNS is used mostly to translate
between domain names and
IP addresses, and to control
email delivery. Most internet
services rely on DNS to
work. If DNS fails or is
too slow, web sites cannot
be located and email delivery
stalls. The DNS system consists
of three components: DNS
data (called resource records),
servers (called name servers),
and Internet protocols for
fetching data from the servers. |
|
| |
| Q.2: What
do you do with my domain
registration information? |
| Hindsoft
Technology Pvt. Ltd. registers
your domain name through
Network Solutions, a renowned
registrar accredited by
Internet's governing organisation
called ICANN.
The personal contact
information you provided
when you placed your order
was used to designate
the registrant and administrative
contacts for your domain
name. As required by ICANN,
this information is publicly
available.
Records of all domain
names registered by our
registrar, Network Solutions
are maintained in Network
Solutions public WHOIS
database. The information
includes registrant, administrator,
technical contact and
name server information
as well as record creation,
update and expiration
dates. You can view and
edit your WHOIS data through
your Domain Control Panel.
All domain registration
information is available
to the public through
many publicly accessible
WHOIS interfaces.

| Q.3: Can
I change my domain name?
|
| Once you've
purchased a domain name
you cannot change it. If
you wish to discontinue
the domain name you purchased
you should refrain from
renewing it when it expires
and just buy another domain |
|
| |
| Q.4: Why
do I need a domain name?
|
| When you
choose a web address or
a domain name for your business
you actually put up your
business online and make
your business accessible
to millions of customers
all over the world.
Your customers use your
domain name (www.yourdomain.com)
to find your business
online, order your products
or services or contact
you, which means more
business. And you send
and receive messages from
the email business solutions
package linked to your
domain name.
If you just recently
signed up with Hindsoft
Technology Pvt. Ltd. for
your Domain, it may still
not be active across the
Internet or if you are
using a domain name registered
elsewhere then changes
to your name server settings
may not yet have taken
effect. After registration,
a new domain takes 24
to 48 hours to get activated.
|
|
| |
| Q.5: How
do I terminate my account?
|
| If you ever
wish to terminate your account,
which we are sure you wouldn't
want to, all you need to
do is refrain from renewing
your account for that particular
product or service. Your
account lapses automatically. |
|
| |
| Q.6: What
are sub-domains? How many
can I create? |
| If you own
the domain name yourdomain.com,
you can create something.yourdomain.com.
Hindsoft Technology Pvt.
Ltd. allows you to create
sub-domains depending upon
the hosting package. |
|
| |
| Q.7: Can
I change the registrant
information of a Domain
Name? |
| You may change
the registrant information
anytime by sending us a
request for the same. |
|
| |
| Q.8: What
is Domain Parking? |
| Park your
domain on our server until
you are ready to host your
website. You do not need
to buy web space to park
your domain name. So, you
can reserve your domain
now and build your site
later. |
|
| |
| Q.9: What
if I already have a Domain
Name? |
| If you have
booked your domain name
through a different registrar,
you can still use our other
services like Business mail
and Web hosting. You need
to contact your domain registrar
and request a name server
change to redirect your
existing domain name to
a new service. You will
get a detailed instruction
from us after you place
the order. |
|
| |
| Q.10:
What is Domain Forwarding
(CNAME) and how do I forward
my domain? |
| Domain forwarding
service is a free service.
The domain forward feature
lets you point your domain
name to another home page
or web site location and
keep track of all your customers.
This is used when you have
registered a number of similar
domain names but you want
to have the same website
for all domain names. Let's
say your main site/domain
name is MYSITE.COM. Your
strategy may also be to
register the names:
YOURSITE.COM
YOUR-SITE.COM
YOUR-SITES.COM
and have all these names
go to your MYSITE.COM
website. This theory assumes
that your MAIN domain
name might not be remembered
correctly so you might
as well get hits for all
the domain names.
When using domain name
forwarding, the address
of the site that your
domain name is forwarded
to is NOT shown. For instance,
if you have the domain
name MYNEWSITE.COM forwarded
to MYSITE.COM, the web
browser will NOT show
references to MYSITE.COM.

| Q.12:
What is a host name? |
| A host name
is an Internet address or
domain name with a prefix.
For example, the host name
of the domain name "yourdomainname.com"
is "example.yourdomainname.com." |
|
| |
| Q.13:
How do I change the name
servers for my domain name? |
| You may change
the nameservers for your
domain name anytime by sending
us a request for the same. |
|
| |
| Q.14:
What is Domain assigning
(A record)? |
| All servers
on the Internet have an
IP address that consists
of a set of four numbers
like 123.45.6.78 By assigning
a name to the IP address
- or vice versa - the web
becomes easier to use. URL
addresses (domain names)
are obtainable from many
sources. A domain name can
have more than one IP address.
For example:
YOURSITE.COM is assigned
IP address 124.32.9.76
or
SALES.MYSITE.COM is assigned
IP address 124.32.9.76
and 124.32.9.77
|
|
| |
| Q.15:
Can I set up multiple A
and CNAME records? |
| Yes. You
can set up multiple A and
CNAME records, one record
at a time. We also allow
you to create multiple A
records for the same hostname.
Sometimes this is used for
a strategy commonly referred
to as round robin. If you
don't wish to create round
robin A records, delete
the records you don't want.
Please be sure that when
creating an A record or
creating CNAME records,
you are pointing to legitimate
destinations.
|
|
| |
| Q.16:
What is MX record? |
| MX or Mail
Exchanger record specifies
where mail for a domain
name should be delivered.
The record must be an assigned
domain name, which in turn
points to an IP address.
MX record can have more
than one domain name and
the order is decided by
the preferences. For example:
MX record for the domain
MYSITES.COM points to
MAIL.MYSITES.COM with
preferences 10 (default
value) and MAIL.MYWIDGETS.COM
points to the IP address
203.199.83.202
If you decide to create
an MX record for your
domain name zone files,
the email services provided
in your the plan you purchased
will no longer function.
All email addressed with
your domain name will
be handled by the server
you indicate in the MX
record.

| Q.17:
What is Private Registration
for my Domain? |
When you
choose Private Registration:
- your contact details on
Whois become invisible to
others
- your privacy is maintained
- you have complete control
over your domain
- you are protected from
unwanted spams and intrusions
to your privacy |
|
| |
| Q.18:
Why do I need to Private
Register my Domain? |
| The ICANN
Regulations require that
your personal contact information
(Name, Address, Email Address
and Phone Number) be available
on Whois, the public database
accessible to all. However,
if you feel the need to
protect your privacy then
we offer you the option
to privately register your
Domain. |
